Mr Lee Kwang Peng, the Chief Instructor of Poomsae Taekwondo Club, passed away peacefully today (18 December 2016).
The news of his untimely death was devastating not only to his family but also to his students and friends in the taekwondo community. In his heyday, Mr Lee was a flamboyant ‘fighter’ winning many championships. He also carried Singapore flag in numerous international competitions and returned regularly with medals.
After his retirement from competition, Mr Lee took up coaching. It did not take him long to produce his first local champion which was followed by a string of title holders in the National Championships and National School Games. His achievements as a coach could be attributed to his love of his students. To him, his students’ welfare was his primarily concern.
The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) has benefited from his generous contributions to the development of taekwondo in Singapore. It regretted that he was able to beat so many formidable opponents in the ring but was unable to win the most important battle against the illness that took his life.
The STF, on behalf of the taekwondo community in Singapore, extends its condolences to his bereaved family. Our prayers and thoughts are with them.
Mr Lee’s wake is held at 41/42, Circuit Road until Wednesday 21 December 2016. The cortege will leave on Thursday 22 December.
