Edgefield is Simply Outstanding in Taekwondo

Going by the incredible progress of taekwondo students at Edgefield Secondary School, we can expect them to give the other athletes vying for honors in next year’s National Inter-School Taekwondo Championships a run for their money.

The school introduced the sport to all students early this year as part of the many innovative initiatives by its principal, Mr Leong Kok Kee. It fielded a few athletes for the national school competition just for exposure. They surprised themselves by winning not only a few medals but also finishing third in one of the categories.

When the day came, they brought pride to their school as they vowed the spectators including special guests, Dr Janil Puthucheary (Advisor, Punggol West Residents’ Committee), Mr Milan Kwee (President, Singapore Taekwondo Federation) and Mrs Daisie Yip (Superintendent, North 3 Cluster). While their kicks were outstanding for their level, their discipline, spirit and teamwork were commendable.

After the performance, the students adjourned to the school hall where they enjoyed a concert put up by some students and teachers. Seven students who received double promotion in the recent grading exercise were recognized for their achievements.

In order to sustain the students’ interest and enhance their standards further, the school would be organizing an inter-class competition before the end of the year.

For the impressive progress of the students, credit must also go to the team of instructors dispatched by Singapore Taekwondo Federation. The team comprises Ng Lee Noi, Simon Ang and Dave Ang.
