Induk Trainees Spar With the Young Olympians

The trainees at Induk Taekwondo were thrilled to see for 4 young Olympians and their coach on Saturday 28 August 2010 at their gymnasium off Guillemard Road.

The visit was arranged by Ronnie Yap, the Club Director, immediately after the Youth Olympic Games which saw two of the players clinched the first two medals in the Games for Singapore. It was to give the enthusiastic children an opportunity to interact with the Olympians and hopefully motivate them to take their path to ‘stardom’.

Coach Wong Liang Ming gave them a little taste of what they had to do to achieve success in the sport by conducting a short session. At the end of it, the kids were asked if they liked the training. While a good number of them replied positively, some were not as excited.

When asked for the reason, the response: “It was too tough!” That drew laughter from the parents, who took leave or cancelled their other appointments, just to be there for their children.

However, when it came to sparring with the ‘stars’ – Daryl Tan, Nurul Shafinas Bte Abdul Rahman, Nur Zakirah Bte Zakaria and Christopher Lee, the kids showed tremendous potential by giving their ‘opponents’ a hard time. If it were in a competition, they would all emerged champions.

The session ended with an autograph signing-session. And the school was presented with a specially autographed national T-shirt.
